Leadership concepts such as respect, engagement and involvement can help to solve the dilemma of employee turnover when business owners and managers put them into act using a leadership style that motivates employees and recognizes their contributions.

Respect

One of the factors that controls employee turnover is the value of communication among company management team and employees. By keeping employees educated and encouraging greater discussion between managers and employees, employees experience respected and that they have a role in decision-making. In fact, respect from the management team is the most vital factor motivating employees.

Engagement

Employee engagement is other significant feature in fixing employee turnover. By creating an environment in which employees have the authority and the knowledge to create their own decisions about working arrangements, company can attain positive performance improvements in customer satisfaction, profitability and productivity, as well as reduce employee turnover.

Vision

Employees who are doubtful about the future of their company may come to a decision to go away because they sense that opportunities will be better at another company. To motivate employees and counter that ambiguity, company must communicate a clear vision of company’s future. A visionary leadership style is particularly significant if company is going through a period of change or restructuring. A vision sets out company’s future direction and the employee’s place in the company, helping to dismiss gossips and other misinformation that can weaken a workforce.

Control

A democratic approach to leadership that features high levels of employee engagement and participation creates a work environment that encourages employees to give their best. In contrast, an autocratic leadership style, in which leaders simply issue instructions, does not create the environment for engagement and involvement that helps to fix employee turnover.
